Description
Non-contact velocity measurement in open channels
MicroFlow is for measuring velocity in open channels without physical contact. Use MicroFlow as a stand-alone device for simple velocity measurement or combine it with a dB Ultrasonic Transducer for a complete area velocity system.
Area velocity calculations with MicroFlow are a cost-effective solution compared to installing a primary measurement device (PMD). In some locations where space (for PMDs) may be an issue, this can be a useful solution.
Area Velocity Measurement for Channels <1.5 Meters Wide
For channels narrower than 1.5 meters, MicroFlow can be combined with the dBMACH3 flow transducer (or other dB Transducer) and a FlowCERT controller to obtain accurate area velocity readings.
Software & Technology
The MicroFlow from Pulsar sensor uses K-Band radar technology and Pulsar Measurement’s specialized analysis software reads the entire width of the channel. If more than one MicroFlow is used, an average reading will be calculated in the control unit. For most accurate results, the user should ensure that the MicroFlow unit is mounted at a 45 degree angle to the water surface.
The K-Band radar technology works by using short microwave pulses that are emitted by an encapsulated antenna on the front of the unit. When reflected from a moving surface, the signal experiences a frequency shift. The reflected signal is captured by the built-in microprocessor via the antenna and analyzed to determine the velocity.
